PROJECT SCOPE / OBJECTIVES: |

|
A closer monitoring of the power consumption (or gas etc) has been demanded
by customers experiencing that power companies bill them with the highest
price, in stead of a continous billing based on a real-time price. ·
Social energy conservation ·
Instructions from authorities on ever
lower limits on by the hour meter-readings (two ways). ·
High initial costs on relatively large
developments reaching few ”customers” (small ratio of charge) ·
Disconnection at one hours notice for many
users/customers ·
The power crisis 2002/3. ·
To-way continuous readings is a better investment
in a short-term perspective, than investments in the power-grid ?! ·
The customer is able to save money just
when the price is high (Not quarterly statements) Meter-reader
uses ISDN number in a standard way, but the number is not owned by the end-user,
but the power company or other wholsale company (eg ISP). Calls (polls) are
mostly initated from the wholsale company, but can also be from the end user
epuipment ISDN
user-equipment that responds to calls, is programmed with its own number
(standard): ·
The customer uses numbers given in telephones and data-equipment ·
External company uses number given for this specific customers access. ·
The equipment can use the diferent transfer mechanisms in ISDN as
required. o

User-To-User information D-channel o
64k on B-channel (Dial-up from Power Company) ·
Various security-mechanisms may be added. Wholesale
service, i.e. The company buyes a bulk ”ISDN telemetry” number which is
pre-defined on certain access points. Price-parameters:
(volume-dependent, not yet determined, but expected to be competitive) ·
Establishment of service ·
Subscription ·
One invoice is sent to the company for all subscribers ·
For customers without ISDN, special arrangements should be offered. ·
Companies offer discount-deals for customers with (or installing) ISDN ·
Companies cover a shim The ISDN
telemetry service can/will also be used for other services like alarm, energy
control and general smarthose services. |

The planning of this service is well under way as of medio november 2003. Telenor is planning to launch this service in its wholesale
portfolio, adding value to the fixed network Subscription already held by most power companies…. Release date is still to be determined. |
