China Telecom and Shanghai Bell Ltd were host to the Global ISDN & Future Access Technologies Industry Forum, Summit 2001. The summit took place on 08-10May2001 at the headquarters of Shanghai Bell Ltd in Shanghai, China.

The 85 attending delegates representing 38 companies from 17 countries around the world hailed the summit a great success.  Results taken from the delegate evaluation forms confirm how successful the summit was with every session receiving 70% and above in the good to excellent categories. Most importantly, 97% of delegates returning questionnaires achieved their objectives for attending the event

Apart from the project workshop sessions on the afternoon of Day 1, the format for the summit programme was a single stream of sessions.   The development of the programme for Shanghai started at the GIIF business meeting in Ancona in September 2000, but it was at a special board meeting, which took place in Berlin, Germany in November 2000 that the majority of the development was carried out. GIIF members were also contacted and asked to put forward proposals, a number of which were included in the programme.

Feedback from the delegates highlighted the following topics on the programme as key to their attendance at the event.

·          AO/DI

·          Experiences of Leading ISDN operators

·          ISDN and DSL

In addition many delegates indicated that they were most influenced by “the opportunity to network with key industry players”.

ANNUAL GIIF BUSINESS MEETING:

Infineon Technologies AG will host the annual business meeting of the GIIF on 13 – 14 November 2001, at the Arabella Sheraton Grand Hotel in Munich, Germany. Member organisations of the GIIF are requested to send at least one delegate to this meeting, as they will be required to vote on some very important issues. The GIIF board of directors are currently working on the future focus that the GIIF will adopt. ISDN has been the major focus since the organisation was established in 1998, but it has become clear over the last 18 months that there is a real need to expand this focus to include all current and future access technologies.
