Feedback
to GIIF Summit Berlin, 1 – 3 March 2000 - After the Global ISDN Industry Forum Summit in Berlin,
1st-3rd March 2000, a vivid interest in Always On Dynamic
ISDN was recorded, in particular from countries of Europe and Asia Pacific.
Telecom operators in as many as almost 20 countries are presently discussing
concrete introduction strategies and thus were particularly interested
in the presentations given by Thomas Müller-Kassner of Deutsche Telekom,
Philip Smith of Virtual Access and Klaus Rothmaier of Alcatel.
CeBIT 2000 seen Deutsche Telekom announce the introduction of AODI and present
the advantages of AODI under the brandname T-ISDN @ctive.
The interest
of one portion of telecom operators is focused on the system-independent
solution presented by Virtual Access and Alcatel. It allows switches
of different vendors to be served by the Alcatel technology. Deutsche
Telekom and Belgacom have placed orders to Alcatel. The AO server of
the Alcatel system was developed and supplied by Virtual Access. By
late 2000 more than 200 AO servers will have been installed for Deutsche
Telekom and Belgacom. In
addition to technology, the enquiries from other telecom operators refer
to the optimization of the existing network infrastructure that is
made possible by AODI and to the creation of a stronger demand for ISDN. Therefore
the Global ISDN Industry Forum Board Of Directors has decided to particularly
focus on the subject Always On Dynamic ISDN at the next Business Meeting
from 27 to 28 September 2000 in Italy. UPCOMING
EVENTS:
GIIF Business Meeting 2000 – The annual GIIF Business Meeting will take place on 27th – 28th September 2000. Aethra S.R.L. will host the meeting at the Hotel Jolly in Ancona, Italy. Please be aware that GIIF Business meetings are not open to non-members.

New IDC study on European ISDN Controller Market Expanded
Market Share in Germany
Germany
is the largest national ISDN market in Europe. Last year alone, 2.98
million controllers were sold in AVM’s home country, where it commands
a market share of nearly 68 percent. The company was able to increase
its 1999 market share by 4.7 percentage points, from 63.1 to 67.8 percent.
Abroad, AVM also holds the market leader position in Britain, Switzerland,
Austria and Spain. FRITZ! Card, the ISDN-Controller sold most often
worldwide, was the primary reason for this success. Runner-up Teles
AG’s market shares declined in 1999, the IDC study found, sinking by
4.8 percentage points to 10.6 percent in Europe, and from 12.8 to 10.8
percent in Germany. Eicon meanwhile increased its European market share
from 8.0 to 10.0 percent, and expanded its German position from 4.7
to 5.8 percent.
Market
Structure by Countries
Of
4.84 million ISDN controllers ordered in Europe, over 61 percent, or
2.98 million (1998: 2.22 million) were bought in Germany. Second in
units sold is the Netherlands (330,000, up from 174,000), with Britain
close behind (300,000, up from 162,000). Other major markets are France
(220,000, up from 154,000), Switzerland (188,000, increased from 64,000)
and Norway (187,000, up from 61,000). In Italy, 154,000 ISDN controllers
were sold in 1999 (compared with 88,000 in 1998), in Denmark 109,000
(up from 52.000) and in Austria 97,000 (up from 56,000). Overall, sales

Internet over ISDN: The High Speed Web Connection
Speed demons are hitting the World Wide Web with Fast Internet over ISDN. Throughput with up to 240 kilobits per second can be attained over an ISDN line-for multimedia content or file downloads. In the same time that a V.34 modem takes to fetch one HTML page, Fast Internet over ISDN loads about seven pages. How Does Fast Internet over ISDN Work? Fast Internet over ISDN means channel bundling, data compression, Short-Hold Mode and Always On (T-ISDN @ctive). All AVM ISDN- Controllers support all of these capabilities. Try
